Description:
Designed in Tokyo, Moln suitcases approach travel as both function and form. Their shapes are clean and gently contoured, softened by details that recall a well-made bag. Metal fittings, stitching, and belts are treated with care, giving each piece a crafted presence rather than the feel of a typical hard-shell case.

The color palette draws from the earth itself, moss, stone, charcoal, terracotta, allowing each suitcase to sit naturally within its surroundings, whether in transit or at rest.

At the core of Moln is the idea of movement without boundaries. The name itself refers to a cloud, a symbol of travel that drifts freely across landscapes and cultures. Each suitcase is designed to accompany that journey, giving form to the experience of travel rather than simply containing it.

Quality is treated as a long-term commitment. Moln designs its suitcases not as disposable objects, but as pieces meant to be used over time, supported by repair programs and ongoing care. Each case undergoes rigorous testing, including thousands of handle drops, long-distance wheel trials, and repeated zipper cycles, ensuring durability across different conditions of travel.

Details extend into performance. Quiet, durable casters, adjustable handles, and structured interiors support ease of movement and organization, while materials are selected for resilience against wear, water, and daily use.

Balanced between craft and industry, Moln suitcases are shaped with the intention to travel well and age with use. Objects designed not only to carry belongings, but to accompany the journey itself. A shipping and handling fee of $50.00 will be added for the medium Moln suitcase.

History:
Founded in Japan, Moln emerged as a contemporary travel brand built around a simple idea: to give form to the experience of moving through the world. The name “Moln,” meaning cloud in Swedish, reflects this origin. Clouds drift freely across borders, shaping the brand’s view of travel as fluid and open. From the beginning, Moln approached luggage as a design-led project. Working with industrial designer Fumie Shibata, the brand developed suitcases that balance precision with a softer, more familiar material language.

Fumie Shibata is a Tokyo-based product designer and founder of Design Studio S, whose work spans electronics, furniture, daily goods, medical devices, and even the creative direction of hotels. After graduating from Musashino Art University and beginning her career at a major electronics manufacturer, she established her independent studio, developing a practice rooted in industrial design but applied across diverse fields.

Her previous works include projects for brands such as Muji, Kinto, Omron, and ITOKI, as well as lighting for Brokis and glassware for Holmegaard. Notable designs range from the Omron electronic thermometer and Kinto tableware series to the vertebra03 work chair and the 9h capsule hotel, reflecting a consistent approach that brings careful attention to form, material, and everyday use.

For Moln, she developed the suitcase design with a focus on restrained functionality and refined detail, using subdued, earth-inspired colors and cohesive materials to create objects that feel integrated into the landscape of travel.
