It's an honor to be featured in Amanda Hesser's latest newsletter! Amanda is a food writer, former food editor of The New York Times Magazine, author of The Essential New York Times Cookbook, and co-founder and CEO of Food52. Her recent journey on the West Coast was a delightful read, and we're so pleased that Tortoise General Store made it onto her itinerary.

Tortoise General Store – I made my first purchase at Tortoise General Store nearly twenty years ago, when the shop was still on Abbot Kinney. My haul was a set of Sori Yanagi steel bowls and colanders that I still use nearly every day. The owners have since relocated to a larger space on nearby Venice Boulevard. Everything in the store is either handpicked, carefully crafted, or charming—and often all three at once. Go buy some tableware, then head to Venice beach to watch the skateboarders. That’s what I did.
Whether you're visiting us for our Whale Knives, timeless Sori Yanagi tableware, or simply enjoying our space, we hope you find inspiration just like Amanda.

Amanda, a sincere thank you from all of us here at TGS for supporting us and sharing your wonderful experiences. Your kind words about our story and careful curation mean the world to us. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
