History:
For more than four centuries, Arita has been known as the birthplace of Japanese porcelain, setting the standard for ceramic craftsmanship since 1616.

Established in 1865, Kouraku Kiln (Tokunaga Tōjiki Co., Ltd.) is a fifth-generation, family-run workshop rooted in this tradition. Today, the kiln employs a small team of 23 artisans, with every piece made by hand. Kouraku’s work focuses on everyday tableware that balances clarity of form, cultural heritage, and practical use.

At the height of Arita porcelain’s golden era, Kouraku employed as many as 250 craftsmen and women, a scale that reflects both the region’s history and the kiln’s enduring legacy.
