Description:
The living room table sits at the heart of the home, a place where family gathers and guests are welcomed. Sweets and seasonal fruits arranged on a kashibon at its center create a moment of ease and shared enjoyment.

Clad in glossy lacquer and elevated on a high base, this kashibon carries a sense of formality and care. A circular path allows for choice placement of fruit, mochi, or other treats. Its presence conveys consideration and hospitality, offering a refined way to serve family and loved ones.

11.81 in W × 11.81 in D × 2.76 in H

History:
Pirkamonrayke is a project brand that explores new directions in Japanese manufacturing through collaboration between Sasaki Kogei and leading production regions across Japan. By sharing techniques, materials, and expertise, the project brings together craftspeople and makers who work toward a shared purpose. Each object is shaped through connection rather than isolation.

The focus is not simply on mutual support, but on mutual elevation. Collaboration becomes a way to refine skills, challenge conventions, and pursue outcomes that all participants can stand behind. Through exchanges between people, materials, and regions, new relationships emerge and unexpected value is created.

When skilled artisans and established production areas come together, traditional boundaries begin to dissolve. Preconceptions give way to experimentation, and new possibilities open. Guided by the idea of “Pirika Monraike,” meaning “to do good work,” the project is grounded in a shared commitment to quality, respect, and moving beyond what has come before.

Natural wood (Hokkaido-grown Japanese Tamo ash)
Natural lacquer

Variation:
Urushi lacquerware carries variation as part of its nature, not as a flaw. Because urushi is harvested, refined, and applied by hand, no two surfaces ever settle in exactly the same way. Humidity, temperature, and time all influence how the lacquer cures, creating subtle differences in tone, depth, and sheen from piece to piece.

Tiny irregularities—soft ripples, faint brush marks, slight variations in color—often remain visible beneath the polished surface. These traces reflect the movement of the artisan’s hand and the living quality of the material itself. Over time, urushi continues to mature, gently deepening in color and luster, so a piece may change almost imperceptibly as it is used.

Rather than aiming for uniform perfection, urushi lacquerware embraces nuance. Its variations and quiet imperfections give each object a distinct presence, shaped by process, environment, and touch.
Lacquer pieces are final sale.
