Horizon Tea Bamboo Whisk
Crafted in Takayama, the historic center of Japan's bamboo whisk-making tradition, this 80-tip chasen is carved from a single piece of bamboo and shaped entirely by hand. Its finely cut tines create the delicate balance of flexibility and resilience needed to transform matcha and water into a smooth, velvety foam. Rooted in centuries of craftsmanship, its simple form remains remarkably effective, bringing utility and precision to the ritual of matcha preparation.

History:For more than four centuries, the town of Hasami has been one of Japan’s most celebrated centers of porcelain production, where generations of artisans have refined techniques rooted in both utility and beauty. Today, Tokyo Saikai builds on this legacy by partnering with local kilns and internationally recognized designers, creating collections that preserve the region’s craft while introducing it to a modern audience.
The Ha collection, developed with designer Sebastian Bergne, reflects this thoughtful exchange between tradition and innovation. Familiar forms such as tea cups, bowls, spouted bowls, and bamboo whisks are carefully reimagined with restrained proportions and contemporary detailing, resulting in pieces that feel at once traditional and refined. By looking forward while remaining grounded in Hasami’s rich ceramic heritage, the collection offers a fresh expression of Japanese tea culture for the modern table.

Care Instructions:Before First Use: Briefly soak the whisk tines in warm water before use. This softens the bamboo and helps prevent breakage during whisking. Avoid using boiling water, which can damage the delicate tines.
After Each Use: Rinse thoroughly with warm water only. Avoid soap, which can leave residue and dry out the bamboo. Gently remove any matcha trapped between the tines with your fingers or a soft stream of water, then shake off excess moisture.
Long-Term Care: Allow the whisk to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area. Store upright or on a whisk holder (kusenaoshi) to help maintain its shape. Keep away from prolonged moisture, direct sunlight, and extreme heat. With proper care, your bamboo whisk will develop a beautiful patina and provide many satisfying bowls of matcha. Microwave safe
