Takarajima Senkou, Trunk Show July 6th - 14th

Posted by Zack Parker on

Tortoise General Store will host a trunk show for the Japanese plant-dye brand Takarajima Senkou from July 6th to July 14th.

The designer will be present at the gallery on July 6th and 7th.

Takarajima Senkou is a dye factory in the verdant countryside of Fukuoka established in 2001 by Chiharu Ogomori. Using only natural dyes, they focus on hand-dyeing and medium-scale production and specialize in making products rather than artworks.

Traditionally, plant-dye production has been the purview of small workshops with limited distribution. Takarajima Senkou has continuously evolved its production processes and methods to make plant-dyed products more accessible.

Their motto is to make clothing that allows you to enjoy the unique colors and aging process that can only come from hand-dyeing with natural dyes. Their designs are simple and standardized, suiting people of all ages, genders, and body types. They focus on creating products rather than artworks, with designs and prices that make their clothing accessible to more people and closely aligned with everyday life. They aim to be "a slightly special" choice in an overwhelming world of options.
