Description:
Durable and designed to last a life time, these cast iron trivets are made by third generation forger Nobuho Miya.These lattice-shaped trivets come in 2 sizes.  Rest your hot cookware on top of the trivet to protect your table top surface.  The trivet's traditional yet graphic design can be enjoyed alone - displayed on a table or shelf - or underneath a vase of sculpture.

Variation:
The lacquer coating may be uneven in parts to reveal a silver-brown patina underneath.  This is part of its natural beauty.

History:
Nambu tekki is a traditional ironware craft that began in the middle of the 17th century in Northern Japan -- an area rich with iron resources. Nambu tekki has a distinct black color, the result of a Japanese lacquer glaze called "urushi" that is coated onto the iron to prevent rust. This iron trivet was designed and forged by Nobuho Miya. Miya works in his family's ironware studio, Kamasada, in the Iwate prefecture of Japan. With more than 40 years of experience, he practices Nambu techniques and is considered one of the living masters of this ancient art.

Measurement:
Small and medium: Both 5''
Large: 8"

Materials:
Nambu tekki cast iron (lacquer coated iron)

Care Instructions:
Store in a dry area.  Wash with soap and water, and dry immediately. Abrasive scrubbers and chemicals can remove the urushi faster.  Chipping and wearing off of the urushi may occur naturally with use.  If moisture makes contact with these areas, you may see rust.  Rust is not harmful, and is best avoided by keeping away from moisture.
