Beautiful, one-of-a-kind mittens to use in the kitchen for tasks like grabbing a hot kettle handles or lifting the lid off a hot enamel pot. Each mitt is made from 100% organic cotton, grown by Japanese textile designer and weaver, Niime Tamaki and made using the traditional style of Japanese weaving called 'Banshu Ori'. Not suitable as oven mitts.

History:
A brand based in the textile rich region of Hyogo, Japan, Niime pieces are woven on large industrial looms in the traditional style of Japanese weaving called 'Banshu-ori'. This method of weaving was revived by Tamaki Niime back in 2006 after it was effectively made extinct in the mid-80's after being the traditional method of weaving kimonos since the 1700s. Niime brought back "Banshu-Ori" with her line of scarves, and later, a full line of clothing including dresses, loose tops, voluminous pants and now homeware. In an effort to become ever more thoughtful about her textiles, Tamaki Niime sought to grow her own materials, including the organic cotton for her scarves, and has a working field next to her looms. Today her entire process of making each product starts from the growing of cotton, to the dying of the thread, to the weaving - and having it all maintained in 1 place.

Care Instructions:
Machine wash on delicate cycle and hang dry. This glove is not suitable as an oven mitt and for grabbing very hot items in the kitchen. If you have to grab something that is very hot, you may feel the heat through the mitt, which is normal.

Returns must be made within 2 weeks in original, unused condition with all packaging for either 1. Store credit for the full amount or 2. Refund - minus a 20% restocking fee. Tortoise does not cover the cost of return shipping or the cost of re-shipping an exchange, and the cost of shipping for returns and exchanges is the responsibility of the customer.
