History:
Known as Japan's #1 prefecture for gem and precious metal industries, Yamanashi prefecture is home to jewelry designer Yuta Ishihara who launched Shihara in 2010. The Tokyo-based jewelry label handcrafts delicate 18k gold earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets that explore geometry and minimalism. By taking away decorative elements in an innovative process that he calls “subtraction”, Ishihara integrates concealed and adjustable closures and invisible rigid bars, allowing his jewelry to be seamlessly styled in a variety of ways. As a designer, Ishihara shies away from the concept that the jewelry he creates is simple, rather it’s intensely focused on drawing out the 'pure beauty' of each piece where carefully considered details allow his jewelry to be unobtrusive to the wearer, but radiates a undeniable natural elegance.
