Posted by Keiko Shinomoto on

We are excited to introduce another talented artist, Mariko Hirasawa. Born in Tokyo, she works across a wide range of fields, including book covers, advertising, picture books, and package design.  While she has created illustrations for advertisements, books, and product packaging, she has recently focused on monotype printmaking for her personal expression. Her unique monotypes are crafted through multiple layers of wiping and printing, creating delicate gradients that reflect her distinct worldview.

We invite you to explore the captivating world of her one-of-a-kind artwork!

Meet and greet the artist: Oct 11 and 12

Opening Reception with some refreshment: Oct 12 (Saturday) 3PM - 5PM
supported by Uka, Japanese Sake

“They have been here all along”

When I begin to create, I breathe.

I exhale deeply and inhale fresh air in return. With each breath, I descend deeper within myself,

letting go of the thoughts that arise in my mind, descending further into a deeper place.

That is clear and boundless, where each being fulfilling its life breathes with its own melody.

People, horses, birds, trees— they all exist there, unbiased and straightforward.

I simply watch, feel, and imprint it in my heart, becoming fulfilled and surfacing into the present,

and then I begin to move my hands.

At the same time, I imagine that everyone is connected to this place and knows they can return to their true selves there, even though they simply forget in their daily lives.

Try taking a breath or two within this space, and then feel and remember yourself. It has always been here.
