No Waste Bunaco Round Bowls
The sleek and elegant Bunaco Round Bowls are made from beechwood that has been thinly sliced and coiled into an organic shape. Due to this method of slicing the wood in strips rather than carving it into a shape, there is very little waste produced and all of the wood is used. This plate is food-safe and can add a touch of beauty to your dining experience, or be used as a decorative display piece, and will last for many years to come.
Due to the handmade nature and material, each piece will have natural variation.
The Bunaco Company was founded in 1956 on the northern tip of the main island of Japan (Honshu). This area is abundant with beech trees, and Bunaco craftsmen and women have developed eco friendly and flexible products by using this locally grown wood for unique and unexpectedly shaped vessels. Their method of production involves slicing beechwood in 1mm thick slices to make a 1cm-wide ribbon-like strip. This is wound around a solid round base to form a coil of timber, which provides a base for making a great variety of shapes.
