Since 2006, Niime Tamaki has overseen all stages of her production line, including the growing of the cotton, dyeing of the thread, and weaving of the finished product. Her work is colorful, original and distinctive, an infusion of the designer’s effortless style into comfortable and easy-to-wear clothing. Banshu-ori, the kimono weaving technique Niime employs, has a long history dating back to 1792. The style is characterized by yarn-dyed fabrics that are dyed first and woven into a variety of patterns.
Each pair of pants is an “Only One” garment. This concept means that the garment photographed is a one-off item with only one in existence with these colors and cut. For every “Only One” garment, Tamaki Niime chooses different thread colors, so each item is totally unique from other woven garments within their line.
