Linden Tree Fiber Bag by F/Style
Since the Jomon and Yayoi periods, Japanese people have made textile thread from fibers derived from plants and trees that grow naturally in the country's mountainous region, including fiber from the prized Japanese Linden tree. Developments in spinning technology during the Meiji era made cotton products more common, causing many neighboring regions to cease production of these traditional textiles with Linden, but in the region of Niigata, this craft is still striving to survive and has been commonly employed in the making of kimono obi, hats, bags and other necessitates. This Linden bag by F/style is designed by the female led brand and design duo formed by Emi Igarashi and Wakano Hoshino. F/style strives to apply traditional methods of craft to contemporary design that better fits our daily life, and elevates the material in ways never seen before to preserve the craft for future generations.
This bag is made from a natural tree fiber called Linden. Over time this bag will become softer, and the texture will change. This bag will also darken with age. This is part of the natural aging process that brings out the beauty of the material.
Emi Igarashi and Wakano Hoshino, were both born in Niigata Japan and co-founded the brand 'F/style' in 2001 to preserve the art of making things, or "monozokuri", in their hometown. F/style's mission is to re-popularize ancient Japanese craft by applying them to new and contemporary designs that fit within a wide-range of aesthetics. F/style creates made-to-last pieces, that are thoughtfully designed for the home, and for personal use.
