Paint Brush by Mitsuru Koga
Artist Mitsuru Koga (b. 1980), based in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan has the ability to infuse life into seemingly mundane materials, and transforms them into objects of art.
These transformations are Koga’s commitment to exploring the delicate relationship between man and object, man and nature.
From Koga's celebrated and whimsical collection 'Atelier', his series of paint brushes are meant to replicate the actual tools found in Koga's atelier in Kanagawa.
Each paint brush is carved from a single block of lumber and made to look like 2 separate pieces. Koga first carves the paint brush, then carefully paints them, places each brush hair individually, then attaches the metal hardware and finally the applies the colorful pain on the brush fibers last.
Like all of Koga's works, there is a sense of to each piece upon closer inspection. Not everything is like it seems.
