Niime Room Shoes
These room shoes are colorful and comfortable. Each unique slipper is made from 100% organic cotton, grown by the Japanese textile designer and weaver herself: Tamaki Niime. These room shoes are all one-of-a-kind and made using a traditional style of Japanese weaving called 'Banshu Ori' in the textile rich region of Hyogo Japan.
This item is an "Only One" item, meaning each no two pairs are the same. The slippers you choose in the drop down are the ones you will receive.
This method of weaving was revived by Tamaki Niime back in 2006 after it was effectively made extinct in the mid-80's after being the traditional method of weaving kimonos since the 1700s. Niime brought back "Banshu-Ori" with her line of scarves, and later, a full line of clothing including dresses, loose tops, voluminous pants and now homeware. In an effort to become ever more thoughtful about her textiles, Tamaki Niime sought to grow her own materials, including the organic cotton for her scarves, and has a working field next to her looms. Today her entire process of making each product starts from the growing of cotton, to the dying of the thread, to the weaving - and having it all maintained in 1 place.
