Description:
Naoko Zaima, certified instructor of the Sogetsu school of Ikebana  flower arrangement, will lead an hour long demonstration outlining the basics of Japanese flower arrangement–Sunday March 12th to 10 participants.  The demonstration will show how to choose a vessel, how to use a kenzan, how to cut stems and branches, how to insert them into the base and how to create basic ikebana arrangements using both fresh and dry flowers. Each participant with receive a signed copy of Naoko's book, Inspired Ikebana: Modern Design Meets the Ancient Art of Japanese Flower Arrangement to continue their lifelong learning at home.

Naoko will be at Tortoise General Store from 12 PM to 5 PM to meet & greet guests, sign copies of her books and answer questions about iIkebana flower arrangement.  Naoko will also bring several flower arrangements that will be available for purchase over the weekend.  These arrangements will include the vessel, kenzan and flowers all to take home.  

History: 
Naoko Zaima is an Ikebana instructor certified by the Sogetsu School of Ikebana.  Originally from Hiroshima Japan, Naoko studied ikebana for 10 years before becoming an instructor herself, and now teaches flower arrangement in her city of residence, Los Angeles.  In addition to creating arrangements and commissioned works for local parties and events, her first published book is intended to inspire and instruct anyone interested in ikebana arrangement the way of flowers.
Materials:
No materials are needed by the students.  This is a demonstration where the instructor will bring all the material and demonstrate to the class.  Each student will receive a signed copy of Naoko's book.
