Description:
Mizusashi (water container for Japanese Tea Ceremony) by Michiho Fukumori. Fukumori uses traditional techniques for this ceremonial piece. Mizusashi are traditionally used by the host of the tea ceremony, and are one of the main objects in the aesthetic scheme of the host. A generous amount of natural glaze was applied to achieve this crackly, alive texture.

The Fukumori family’s kiln and home is deep in the mountains of the Iga Valley, in the town of Marubashira. This family of potters has been passing down their traditional art for eight generations. They use clay sourced from the southernmost part of Lake Biwa.
