Mitsuru Koga Atelier
This book features work from Koga's celebrated and whimsical collection 'Atelier'. This series of paint brushes was meant to replicate the actual tools found in his atelier in Kanagawa, Japan. Each paint brush is carved from a single block of lumber and made to look like 2 separate pieces. Koga first carves each paint brush, attaches the metal hardware, places each brush hair bristle individually, then finally applies the colorful paint on the brush fibers. Like all of Koga's works, there is a sense of wonder to each piece upon closer inspection. Not everything is like it seems.
Misturu Koga (b. 1980), based in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan, has the ability to infuse life into seemingly mundane materials, and transforms them into objects of art. These transformations are Koga’s commitment to exploring the delicate relationship between man and object, man and nature. His recent studio visit can be found here.
