History:
Founded in Kurume, Japan in 1873, Moonstar first began as a producer of the traditional Japanese footwear called tabi, a thin five-toed slip on shoe with a rubber sole. In 1967, Moonstar factories adopted a process called direct injection and the productivity and durability of this method perfected over time eventually drove Moonstar to start manufacturing Japanese school shoes, which in Japan must meet rigid and high standards. As a result, Moonstar currently manufactures over 80% of the school shoes worn by students across Japan.  Moonstar later developed internal brands like Shoes Like Pottery, which was built on Moonstar's place as leaders in a type of vulcanizing called ka-ryu, a process performed by only a select handful of shoe manufacturers around the world. In the ka-ryu process, each shoe is fired in a kiln which causes the sulfur mixed inside the raw rubber to chemically react, returning the rubber to its natural elasticity and creating a soft, flexible, and durable sole.

Materials:
100% Cotton Canvas, Fine Vulcanized Rubber sole

Variation:
Due to the shoe's unique production method, the rubber soles on these shoes may appear to have a white powder or white coating when taken out of this box.  This is not a defect and cannot necessarily be cleaned off since it is sign of the natural chemical reaction that takes place inside the rubber when the sulfur is activated to create its elasticity.  There will be some variation among all individual pieces due to the handmade nature of certain stages in production.

Care Instructions:
Spot clean with damp cloth and a soft brush
