Description:
Learn the Okinawan tradition of Bokashi composting, an anaerobic process that uses a special additive to ferment kitchen waste, including meat and dairy, into healthy soil and nutrient-rich fertilizer for your plants.  Participation in this workshop supports the ongoing work of Sustainable Little Tokyo's effort to combat food waste in Los Angeles!

Date: May 13th, 2023 (Saturday)
Maximum participants: 15
Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Fee: $70 per person (non-refundable).  Class fee includes a composting bucket to take home, plus a ready-made bokashi mixture and a in-progress bokashi mixture you make at the workshop.  Additional sets of the bucket and ready-made bokashi mixtures will be sold as post-workshop pop-up item for $35.

Sustainable Little Tokyo's Cycle of Food Coordinator, Amy Honjiyo, will be assisted by zero-waste advocate Andie Kimura, in teaching participants on how to start composting using the Bokashi method, and will provide all the material needed to create your own starter mix.

History:
Sustainable Little Tokyo is a community-driven initiative led by the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, Little Tokyo Service Center, and Little Tokyo Community Council. SLT’s mission is to ensure a healthy, equitable, and culturally-rich Little Tokyo for generations to come.
Materials:
No materials are needed by the students, but we recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for the weather outside that day.  This will be a hands on workshop where you may get your hands and clothes dirty.

All event fees are final sale and are non-transferrable.
