Learn the Okinawan tradition of Bokashi composting, an anaerobic process that uses a special additive to ferment kitchen waste, including meat and dairy, into healthy soil and nutrient-rich fertilizer for your plants. Participation in this workshop supports the ongoing work of Sustainable Little Tokyo's effort to combat food waste in Los Angeles!

Maximum participants: 15
Time: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Fee: $70 per person (non-refundable). Class fee includes a composting bucket to take home, plus a ready-made bokashi mixture and a in-progress bokashi mixture you make at the workshop. Additional sets of the bucket and ready-made bokashi mixtures will be sold as post-workshop pop-up item for $35.
Sustainable Little Tokyo's Cycle of Food Coordinator, Amy Honjiyo, will be assisted by zero-waste advocate Andie Kimura, in teaching participants on how to start composting using the Bokashi method, and will provide all the material needed to create your own starter mix.

No materials are needed by the students, but we recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for the weather outside that day. This will be a hands on workshop where you may get your hands and clothes dirty.
