These special animals are made by traditional woodprint craft that originated in Hida-city, of Gifu Japan. The fabric is first dyed using woodblock print using vegetable natrual dye, then the fabric is steamed at a high temperature to fix the dye in place. The fabric is then stuffed with rice chaff and given shape. Finally, the fabric is hand stitched to seal. The natural dye and natural rice chaff inside each of these little animals make them completely safe for young children and infants who want to chew on them. Safe and colorful - a favorite among adults as well!
Each animal is made by hand. There may be variation in the color and appearance of the animals.
Hida was an important castle town in the Middle Ages, and today has a fine tradition for wooden furniture.
