Tsu Tsu Cup by Ryota Aoki (Large)
Potter, Ryota Aoki (b. 1978), lives and works in Toki, Gifu prefecture. Known for his bold exploration of glaze and unconventional use of gold, silver and platinum, Aoki takes on more than 20 solo exhibitions every year, both in Japan and overseas and often collaborates with other industries, such as fashion and interior design.
Aoki is prolific maker of beautiful everyday porcelain ware, and works with a mission to introduce the art of a ceramics to an audience greater than expected by a single artist.
The Tsu Tsu Cup by Ryota Aoki has a rim of gold on a white porcelain body that almost appears transparent in the light. Smooth and milky in its look and feel, the gold rimmed edge is a subtle accent that is both beautiful and understated. 'Tsu Tsu' in Japanese means 'roll-shaped' and Aoki expresses this idea in the cup's elegant clean lines.
