In 1926, Sudawa was founded in Sanjo, a town famous for blacksmith craft. Founder Shukusaburo Kobayashi began the company with the goal of manufacturing kuikiri (end cut pliers) for carpenters responding to surging housing demands after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. Today, Sudawa manufactures manicure and pedicure instruments, bonsai shears, and kitchen tools. All of Suwada’s products are completely handmade by skilled craftsmen. Their pursuit of functionality and aesthetic perfection has led Suwada to receive the Good Design Award on many occasions.
